Parts of Speech

There are 8 (eight) parts of speech:

1.Noun (kata benda)

2.Verb (kata kerja)

3.Adjective (kata sifat)

4.Adverb (kata keterangan)

5.Pronoun (kata ganti)

6.Preposition (kata depan)

7.Conjunction (kata sambung)

8.Interjection (kata sapaan) 

    

1. Noun

Examples: chair, bicycle, car, house, cat, dog, horse, crocodile, hair, face, mouth, nose, and so on. 

2. Verb  

Examples: to eat, to swim, to drink, to run, to walk, to study, to think, to remember, to communicate, and so on. 

3. Adjective  

Examples: happy, sad, good, bad, light, dark, smart, clever, lazy, dilligent, wise, gorgeous, hungry, full, and so on.

4. Adverb 

Examples: carefully, happily, honestly, well,    etc.

5. Pronoun 

Examples: I, You, He, She, It, They, We.  

6. Preposition  

Examples: in, on, at, with, by, under, above, below, and so on. 

7. Conjunction  

Examples: and, therefore, because, after, while, when,  although, however, and so on.

8. Interjection  

Examples: Hello, Hi, and so on.

A sentence must have a specific structure:

   

Subject + Verb + Object

Example:  - Josh has a good car

                     S     V         N

                - They eat breakfast together

                     S      V        O          Adv

 

There are 2 types of sentence: Nominal and verbal 

1.Nominal sentence: is, am, are (to be)

   Example:     We are hungry

                      She is pretty     

 

2.Verbal sentence: to sing, to cry, to read (active verbs)

  Example:   I read a magazine

                    Mr. Lorenzo likes to watch sports channel on TV
